What most people know about me is that I hate sports. What they don't know is that I do actually enjoy boxing and MMA from time to time because these are the sports that my dad watched when I was little. So while I usually won't go out of my way to watch it or keep up with it, sometimes I find myself a little obsessed with it. Right now I'm on a female empowerment kick and feeling a little feisty, so I've been watching female boxing on YouTube.

What I hate about some boxing tournaments is the hugging and the dancing away from each other all the time. While I understand it's a vital component for making points and staving hits etc..it's just really fucking boring. This video of Lucia Rijker vs Chevelle Hallback is not boring.

She's a slow build, but I'm loving her left hooks!

Fortune Teller - Maroon 5

So, I borrowed this Maroon 5 CD from the library and mainly listened to it in the shower. I was pleasantly surprised by this song in particular. I think because it is so repetitive, but with sweet piano notes over this techno oomph thing. For some reason, I like techno if it also has sweetness. Anyway, I'm pretty addicted to not only the sound, but the lyrics. To me, this is the story of a boy living and loving the moment and not understanding why his girl needs to have answers about their future together. Which, I can tell you is pretty common with some of my friends, I just so happen to be on his side at this moment. How can you know you'll always feel a certain way or just what the future holds?

I don't know what to tell you, I'm not a fortune teller.

Rhiannon - Stevie Nicks

I don't know why. Because...Stevie Nicks? But really, I suppose I was watching American Horror Story and that one crazy backwoods witch was obsessed with her songs, which sort of put me in the mood. And Rhiannon is just a good song that kind of takes you for a ride into...hippyville? I don't know. Somewhere nice and mellow and maybe a little magical.

Side note: I know a couple girls named Rhiannon and I thought to myself that they must always have people singing this song to them. And how awesome is that? The only song that I know my name's in is Hard Hearted Hannah (The Vamp of Savannah) which is basically about this wicked cold bitch.

I guess that fits..."the meanest gal in town." But no one ever knows it because it was made in 1956 and apparently, normal people don't listen to music from 30 years before their birth. Woe is me.

ps. I guess there is Hannah by Ray Lamontagne (whose voice I hate) and Hannah by Freelance Whales (which I don't relate to at all...I do not take the stairs if there is an elevator). But I had to do a Google search for this information.

pps. Oh, also Hannah by Robert Downy Jr. ? Whaaaat?

New - Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney's new song is a happy little love song that feels a lot like The Beatle's pop-ier era. It gives me a big dose of the "Oooo's" and sates my romantic soul. 

Just What I Needed - The Cars

Thank you, The Cars, this song is just what I needed. I find this one of the most random songs I've ever had chance to fixate on, but it's a good one, so whatever. For me, this song is about finding a person that perfectly suits your momentary needs (e.g. feed/bleed). Which I guess is kinda where I'm at right now.

The Other F Word

The Other F Word is a pretty rad documentary about those Punk legends we looked up to in our own adolescence for an angry anti-establishment ethos and attitude, and what happened when they became fathers. In a true look at how their own dysfunctional fathers and experiences drive them to be better parents, it is shockingly sentimental in the very best way. It gives even the most fucked up among us a sort of hope for our own possibilities as parents and adults. Or maybe I'm just projecting. Even if that doesn't trip your trigger, the music is awesome and it is in and of itself an interesting look into the lives of guys like Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Jim Lindbergh (Pennywise), Flea (RHCP), Fat Mike (NOFX), and Art Alexakis (Everclear). For those that have Netflix, please watch immediately. For those who do not, please to purchase.

Still Into You - Paramore

Just last night I was pondering who the hell this song was by, and today I'm surfing random things on YouTube and lo and behold...it was given to me in the sidebar. Hail YouTube. Anyway, I like this song mostly because it has a bit of a Michael Jackson feel...just makes you wanna dance! And also because it's Paramore (whom I love). I'm also really sort of just wanting Haley Williams' hair and tights. This is the only song that's really jumped out at me from the radio since Get Lucky. Which kinda tells you everything about the radio that you already know.

Get Lucky - Daft Punk

I won't go into extreme detail here, but I had to listen to the radio for about 10 hours one day, and this song came on like 12 times. It was awesome each time. Love it love it.

Either Way - Wilco

I pretty much love this song. To me, Either Way is about accepting whatever comes your way. The examples listed are the weather, fear, and the existence of love; whether it turns his way or no, he will try to understand and still stay true to what he feels. I like to listen to this song when I'm feeling out of sorts. It has a calming effect, which could also just be the awesome layering this song has. Seriously, it's pretty great. 

Let Your Body Decide - The Ark

I heard Let Your Body Decide by The Ark on the movie, Super. Pretty great movie (shut up, crime!). Pretty great song. This happens to be one of the rare songs that I appreciate for the music more than the lyrics. Of course, I also love the singer's amazing range. Too bad the band is no longer together, though 20 years is an impressive time for one to be together.
