Fiona Apple

In the 90's I was in-freaking-love with this girl. I mean, really. What could be better than Criminal? Her low, throaty, depressively emotional voice sent me all a-shiver. I found her again while purusing the library's cd choices. They have both of her cd's, and I am in love once again. I have chosen a new song of hers to be obsessed with, though it is still from the first album.

THE CHILD IS GONE
Darling, give me your absence tonight
Take the shade from the canvas and leave me the white
Let me sink in the silence that echoes inside
And dont bother leaving the light on
cuz I suddenly feel like a different person
From the roots of my soul come a gentle coercion
And I ran my hand o'er a strange inversion
A vacancy that just did not belong
The child is gone

Honey help me out of this mess
Im a stranger to myself
But dont reach for me, Im too far away
I dont wanna talk cuz theres nothing left to say
So my
Darling, give me your absence tonight
Take all of your sympathy and leave it outside
cuz theres no kind of loving that can make this all right
Im trying to find a place I belong
And I suddenly feel like a different person
From the roots of my soul come a gentle coercion
And I ran my hand over a strange inversion
As the darkness turns into the dawn
The child is gone
The child is gone

She Had The World - Panic! at the Disco

She held the world upon a string
But she didn't ever hold me
Spun the stars on her fingernails
But it never made her happy
Cause she couldn't ever have me

She said she won the world at a carnival
But she could never win me
Cause she couldn't ever catch me

I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, just see the sky

I don't love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throw an old line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

The sun was always in her eyes
She didn't even see me
But that girl had so much love
She'd wanna kiss you all the time
Yeah, she'd wanna kiss you all the time

She said she won the world at a carnival
But I'm sure it didn’t ruin her
Just made her more interesting
I'm sure it didn’t ruin her
Just made her more interesting

I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, I just see the sky

I don't love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throw an old line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

I suppose this is my latest song obsession. This is from Panic's latest album. Sammi bought it a couple months ago, and on the first listen through, we thought the album was a dud. But it grew on me, especially this song. It's very Beatles-esque. Muy divertido!

Chasing Pavements - Adele

I've made up me mind
Don't need to think it over
If I'm wrong I am right
Don't need to look no further
This ain't lust
I know this is love

If I tell the world
I'll never say enough
Cos it was not said to you
And that's exactly what I need to do
If I end up with you

Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads no where,
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there.
Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

I build myself up
And fly around in circles
Waiting as my heart drops
And my back begins to tingle
Finally could this be it or

Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there.
Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place
Should I leave it there

*Should* I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place
Should I leave it there

Should I give up
Or should I just keep on chasing pavements
Should I just keep on chasing pavements

Should I give up
Or should I just keep on chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place
Should I leave it there

Should I give up
Or should I just keep on chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

This song is another one of my optimistic finds. Also the music video is very cute. And Adele's voice is amazing. She's also got that chubby thing going on that is rarely seen in female performers anymore, so yeah, go her.

The Abba Flu...or is it Mono?

For reasons unknown, I have recently been obsessed with Abba. I can't go a day without listening to either Take A Chance On Me or Dancing Queen. Crazy, I know, considering I used to loathe them. It appears that I am now quite fond of 70's pop. I may have to shoot myself soon.

On a slight side note, I'm very excited about Mama Mia! coming out. Hopefully it comes to the Humota before it hits DVD. God knows I am not shelling out $8 bucks to see it.

Love Me Dead - Ludo

Love me cancerously
Like a salt-sore soaked in the sea
'High-maintenance' means
You're a gluttonous queen
Narcissistic and mean

Kill me romantically
Fill my soul with vomit
Then ask me for a piece of gum
Bitter and dumb
You're my sugarplum
You're awful, I love you!

She moves through moonbeams slowly
She wears me down to bones in bed
Must be the sign on my head
That says, oh
Love me dead! Love me dead!

You're a faith-healer on T.V.
You're an office park without any trees
Corporate and cold
Gushing for gold
Leave me alone

You suck so passionately
You're a parasitic, psycho, filthy creature
finger-bangin' my heart
You call me up drunk
Does the fun ever start?
You're hideous and sexy!

She moves through moonbeams slowly
She knows just how to hold me
And when her edges soften
Her body is my coffin
I know she drains me slowly
She wears me down to bones in bed
Must be the sign on my head
That says, oh
Love me dead! Love me dead!

Wow! Uh!

[awesome guitar solo]

Love me cancerously
Brrrot-dot-da-d-da-da!
How's your new boy?
Does he know about me?
You've got the mark of the beast
You're born of a jackal! You're beautiful!

She moves through moonbeams slowly
She knows just how to hold me
And when her edges soften
Her body is my coffin
I know she drains me slowly
She wears me down to bones in bed
Wha' 'bout that sign on my head
That says, oh
Love me dead! Love me dead!
Oooooh, Love me dead!

Crazy addictive. Well, this song at least. The rest of their songs play out like something I would love when I was in 8th grade. Yes, they have a New Found Glory vibe with a Weezer-esque frontman. Nice harmonies, simple guitar chords, catchy lyrics. All in all, a good listen. Good Will Hunting By Myself is also quite amusing.

Guilty Pleasures...

These are just a few songs that I can't help but like. Not that I'm a music snob or anything, I just don't generally like some genres of music. These are the exceptions to my non-existent rules. Shhhhh, don't tell...wouldn't want people to think I wasn't cool...*coughs*

1. I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry
In theory, I hate this song because girls like "I can't understand the concept of silence/I never shut up/won't somebody stick a dick in my mouth" Haley like this song. However, I can't help it. I blame the fascination on the over-simplistic lyrics and catchy tune. Also, the vocal layering is nice. I don't think I would kiss Katie Perry though, drunk or not.

2. Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie
I can't lie, I'm secretly addicted to all of her songs. I love Fergie. Does anybody happen to notice the uncanny similarity between her eyebrows and The Joker's from batman? Anyone? Because I do, hardcore.

3. Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
If I really had to be honest with myself, I would admit that, yes, I do like this song. Much for the same reason that I like The Song That Doesn't End. That's right, because I am a masochist. Personally, I think that Gwen Stefani was much better off as a badass bleach blonde (occasionally fuschia) hottie in a ska band, but whatever. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

4. Gangster's Paradise - Coolio
Man, early 90's, he was the shit. Don't look at me that way. Stop it.

ps. Michelle Pfiffer was super hot in that video. I'm sure that I would like it if I kissed her, cherry chapstick or no.

5. Cupid's Chokehold - Gym Class Heroes
Not that there's anything particularly embarrassing about liking the Gym Class Heroes, or the song. However, this just seems like a guilty pleasure song because it always makes me smile for no particular reason. Supertramp did the original version. I think, for once, I like the new version better. Not sure why, exactly. Maybe just because it is actually 5 billion times better? The world may never know.

Dirty Little Rabbits

What can I say about them? Well, driving home from Vinny's today, the song "You Say" by the Dirty Little Rabbits came on and I fell immediately head over heels. Also sweet is the fact that they come from Johnston, Iowa. This is cool pretty much only because I live in Iowa. Anyway, they are cool beans.

New Soul

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La, la, la, la (21x)
La, la, la, la (21x)

See I'm a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate? try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

La, la, la, la (21x)
La, la, la, la (21x)

This is a happy end
Cause you don't understand
Everything you have done
Why's everything so wrong

This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I'll take you far away

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

New soul... (la, la, la, la,...)
In this very strange world...
Every possible mistake
Possible mistake
Every possible mistake
Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes...

My new favorite song of the month! This song is so happy, I just couldn't resist. However, everything that Yael Naim does is oddly intriguing, and I LOVE it. Seriously, she made me like a Britney Spears song.

Band de Rock

I am hooked on Rock Band.

I have been playing it for a week and a half now, and I can sing on Hard and play bass and guitar on easy. Yesterday was, in fact, my first day even trying to play the guitar parts. I sucked so hardcore at Guitar Hero that I didn't even want to try...but it turned out okay, so long as I stay on easy. Maybe we'll wait another week to try medium.

In any case, it is sad, b/c living with a gamer has rubbed off a little. I am now obsessed with Rock Band (just fucking love the avatars that can be dressed and inked and etc...) and then Cassandra came for a visit and got me hooked on Oblivion. Meanwhile, I have four books out from the library that I haven't even cracked open yet.

I suck.

Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle

This is an amazing little song that is depressingly hopeful. like the Flaming Lips, mostly it is optimistic sounding. The music video is great, all young love and all that. This is a singer that I found through Questionable Content, of course, as all the wierd music I listen to must be. Sebastien Tellier appears to be French techno-pop of some sort, and is in any case, fairly amazing.

Universe is another awesome song of his to listen to. Very floaty.

Divine is a hilarious music video. I think it could almost surpass I Believe In A Thing Called Love in ridiculousness. Maybe. But probably not.

Obombration - Deathspell Omega

wow, I'm not religious, but after listening to this I feel as though I have inadvertantly sold my soul to Satan.

I:
Hagios Ho Theos, Sanctus Deus.
Hagios Ischyros, Sanctus Fortis.
Deus, Judica Me...
Ut Quid, Domine, Recessisti Longe?
Judica Me... Perinde ac cadaver...

VI:
Deus, Judica Me
..et Factus est sudor eius sicut guttae sanguinis decurrentis in Terram...
Domine, in pulverem mortis deduxisti me
PERINDE AC CADAVER!

Okay, so I only took one semester in Latin and my Latin dictionary is not all encompassing...so I did my best to ascertain the meaning of this cryptic and vaguely scary song. My best is actually pretty unintelligible, but whatever.

I:
(as far as I know, these are not actual words), Holy God
??? Ischyros, Holy Strength
God, Judge me
Though who, Lord, departs from you long?
Judge me...just as a corpse...

VI:
God, judge me
...and be made to produce his sweat just as what blood will quickly drop upon the earth
Lord, upon the fine dust of death take me away
just as a corpse!

Conclusion? I don't know Latin...and neither do the online translation machines.

If You Knew - Nina Simone

If you knew how I missed you
You would not stay away today
Dont you know I need you
Stay here my dear with me

I need you here my darling
Together for a day a day
Together never parting
Just you just me my love

I cant go on without you
Your love is all Im living for
I love all things about you
Your heart your soul my love

I need you here beside me
Forever and a day a day
I know whatever betides me
I love you I love you I do

She has a ridiculously gorgeous voice. It's like having your maple syrup sing to you while eating your pancakes. Or maybe not quite like that. In any case, she has a haunting beautiful voice and I love her songs. Most especially the sad/romantic ones like Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair.

Situations - Escape the Fate

Situations are irrelevant now. She loves the way that I tease,
I love the way that she breathes

I touched her ooh, she touched my ahhh, it was the craziest thing.

I love the girls who hate to love because they're just like me. A
certain girl she took my hand and ran it up her thigh. She licked
her lips and pulled my hair, I fall in love for a night

She can't behave and I'm just a slave, don’t worry I'll be gone when
the morning comes.

Darling what is going on?
Honestly that never happened lying is your favorite passion.
Leave me, go where you belong
Hired heels and lipstick napkins dying is your latest fashion.

The frustration it's a regular thing
I hate the ones who love to hate because they're just like me.
A certain girl she took her hand and put in my lap
It's way too full she said once you have me you'll always come back.

She can't behave and I'm just a slave, don’t worry I'll be gone when
the morning comes.

Darling what is going on?
Honestly that never happened lying is your favorite passion
Leave me, go where you belong
Hired heels and lipstick napkins dying is your latest fashion.

I know you love to insist and all it takes is a kiss and you just
love to hate me.

You know you love all the lies so don’t act surprised that I just
love to hate you.

I kissed your lips you pulled my hair it was the craziest thing. I
Love the girls who love to hate. (Breathing)

(Whoa) Darling what is going on?
Honestly that never happened
Lying is your favorite passion
Leave me, go where you belong
Hired heels and lipstick napkins, dying is your latest fashion

Darling (Leave Me) what is going on?
Honestly that never happened
Lying is your favorite passion
Leave me (Darling) go where you belong
Hired heels and lipstick napkins, dying is your favorite passion

I just heard this song on the radio and found it surprisingly addictive. It's been a while since I've heard something so dirty and oddly applicable to my life. Or rather, certain situations I've had in my life. I'd have to say that lying is my favorite passion:p

On another note, it's amusing to find boys who look better in eyeliner than I do.

Still In Love Song - The Stills

When we were lovers
we were kissers
we were holders of hands
we were make believers
just losing time
and you said you'd rather live in tee pee land
than say that you care but you don't
that's heartless and i will not try
but i'm still in love and i'm still in love
yeah i'm still in love and i'm still in love
your dreams of acting on screen
what do they mean
you'll be dancing senseless in your bedroom
and you find yourself out of a job
and before too long you'll be selling lemonade
to the overpaid
and i'm still in love and i'm still in love
and i'm still in love and i'm still in love
and i'm still in love and i'm still in love
i remember it was summer
i was out of my head but you weren't your selfish end
waste of space
but i'm still in love and i'm still in love
and i'm still in love and i'm still in love
and i'm still in love and i'm still in love
and i'm still in love

I luv luv luv how they rhymed lemonade with overpaid. They also have a rather catchy techno/disco/80's thing going on that sounds like The Cure, The Killers, and The Bravery had a threesome and then all splooged at the exact same time onto a cd. Or something like that. In any case, I'm Still In Love with it.

Lola Stars and Stripe is also a good song by The Stills.

JORDAN CATALANO

Jordan Catalano, love/lust object of Angela Chase in the most rockin' show that never made it to season 2...My So Called Life. LOVE this show. Also, LOVE Jordan Catalano. To call Jordan Catalano my ideal would be a slight understatement. Not even Jared Leto can compete w/Jordan. It's a close call though. Jordan is that boy you know you had a completely hopeless crush on in highschool. I know I did. But in My So Called Life...Angela actually gets to kiss him. Claire Danes first kiss was Jared Leto...as Jordan Catalano. How completely awesome is that?

Don't get me wrong, Jared Leto is hot shit...he's just not Jordan.
Jordan Catalano would never wear leather pants. He was strictly of the grunge-rock persuasion, being the 90's and all.

Lily Allen

Lily Allen, you are gorgeous, even if you do have somewhat monstrously huge calves. I love love love your accent and vaguely hilarious songs. Keep on keepin' on lovey.

Superstar - Sonic Youth

long ago
and oh so far away
I fell in love with you
before the second show
your guitar
it sounds so sweet and clear
but you're not really there
it's just the radio

don't you remember you told me you love me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

loneliness, is such a sad affair
and I can hardly wait
to be with you again
what to say
to make you come again
come back to me again
and play your sad guitar

don't you remember you told me you love me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

don't you remember you told me you love me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

Okay, so this version of the classic Carpenters song is way creepy and me likes it mucho! I feel like doing acid and shrooms and lying in a cemetary while listening to this. Sang this way, it feels like a crazy stalker song rather than a love song. Me gusta mucho!

Maggie Gyllenhaal

"I'm still trying to figure out what the right line is between myself and the people I play. Sometimes I go too far one way or too far the other." - Maggie Gyllenhaal

I love Maggie Gyllenhaal. She is way hotter than her brother. Blue eyes always freak me out when guys have them, but on girls they're okay. Plus, Maggie is soooo freakin' awesome. She's such a complex combinatin of gorgeous and ugly, that I never know what to expect. She's such an average looking person, that I just love her to death. I would have lesbian relations with her. Luv luv luv.

Movies w/Maggie Gyllenhaal that ROCK:
1. Riding in Cars with Boys
2. Donnie Darko
3. Secretary
4. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
5. Mona Lisa Smile
6. Sherry Baby
7. Stranger Than Fiction
and I am much anticipating her in the role of Rachel Dawes on the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. So much better than fucking Katie Holmes...fucking hate Katie Holmes and her cutesy "I'm married to Tom Cruise" self. Fuck her.

Do You Realize? - The Flaming Lips

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize

This goes on my Uberfantastic list. This is quite possibly one of the most perfect songs in existence. I just love the way it fills my ears with happiness and sadness all at the same time. Also, The Flaming Lips kick major ass. That is all.

Anyone Else But You - The Moldy Peaches

You're a part time lover and a full time friend
The monkey on you're back is the latest trend
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body's swinging from side to side
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can't, you forgive me?
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I will find my nitch in your car
With my mp3 DVD rumple-packed guitar
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du

Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

You are always trying to keep it real
I'm in love with how you feel
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Don Quixote was a steel driving man
My name is Adam I'm your biggest fan
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Squinched up your face and did a dance
You shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du
But you

I found this song in the movie Juno. The movie is amazing, and so is this song. I swear the only time I'm in the least bit sappy is when I'm choosing songs and movies. This song makes me dream of the perfect little indie boy lover. This is kinda the perfect love song...I mean, wouldn't you love to find someone who you love so much that everyone else just disappears? I know I would.
