Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk - Rufus Wainwright

"Everything it seems I like's a little bit stronger, a little bit thicker, a little bit harmful for me"

True story.

Silvercoin - Angus and Julia Stone

I'm not entirely sure I even have half a feel for what Silvercoin is about. I read the lyrics and everything, but they just don't scream anything particular to me except "I'll miss you when you're gone" which is b/c it's repeated 80 times. Mostly the song just sounds like loss. So obviously it reminds me of Chad and suicide and etc...but that's a personal interpretation, I don't really have an objective one at hand.

Whatever it means, it's pretty. I really enjoy Angus Stone's emotional and yet breezy voice combined with Julia's crackly soprano. The rhythm set by the guitar also evokes the image of a journey or something, for me. But, like, a really casual journey. Like we are casually going to travel to this place that will break your heart. Thanks Angus and Julia, thanks for that.

The Black Keys

Give it up for my Ohio brethren! I hate Ohio, but The Black Keys are proof that something good can come out of that shitfest state and almost eradicate the karmic improbability that is Katie Holmes. It took me forever to actually listen to them after an article in the Rolling Stone, but am I ever glad I did. These boys are gorgeous. That deep, almost indifferent, voice with the sultry riffs and compulsory beats just drive me crazy. In a gooooood way. Yay bluesyness.

The Black Keys makes me feel like drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes is cool again. Makes me wish I had more skinny jeans and some big black glasses. Makes me feel like pursuing my art again. Or just drinking some cool brews on a hot summer day. Too bad the summer's gone just in time for me to find some truly great summer tunes.

So go ahead, get in the mood and get you some.

Turn Into - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I have been in love with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs since my dubious days as a punk rock prom queen. I love the eccentric sound, the lady singer, and their often disturbing music videos. What I really love about this song, and the whole acoustic set, really, is that we get to see that Karen O is not just a great screamer (innuendo!) but also has a clear, beautiful, and emotive singing voice without all the bells and whistles most vocalists rely upon currently. I really just can't gush enough (another innuendo!) about how much I like her tone quality, it's satisfying like...a piece of chocolate in my coffee. Yum.

Blair Waldorf

Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) is my favorite character on Gossip Girl. I came late to the Gossip Girl party, but now I'm making my way through it via my Netflix queue. Sometimes I get sick of the show, honestly, but Blair Waldorf and her tumultuous relationship with Chuck Bass  (yum!) always brings me back.

Serena can suck it, Blair rocks my cock. She reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara, managing to triumph over every obstacle through Machiavellian schemes and strategic alliances. I think I started out my GG journey hating her for the very same things I now love her for. But at heart she is loyal, strong, and the only girl that Chuck Bass will ever love.

Also her clothes are awesome and the Audrey Hepburn references never get old for me.

Blow Me (One Last Kiss) - Pink

My love/hate relationship with Pink is currently a little heavier on the love with this song. Blow Me just has such an upbeat feeling to it. Not to mention Pink's tendency towards sincere and yet creative crudeness with wordplay (ie. "No more sick whiskey dick, no more battles from me"). Even though I feel like she leans too much on talking/yelling her way through most songs, she does have a great range that she really showcases in this song. I have to admire her for that much, at least. And damn, is it not catchy?

*I think that life's too short for this, want back my ignorance and bliss, I think I've had enough of this, blow me one last kiss*

Skinny Love - Bon Iver

Yes, another Pandora find. They should pay me for advertising them so much:p I think I remember Bon Iver being popular among the indie crowd a couple years ago, but I apparently didn't pay them much attention back then. Skinny Love is a bit of a sad song, I think about the end of a relationship that didn't have much "meat" left. This song is really striking a chord with me right now. However, it also makes me kinda sad because it is a sad song, which I guess is what I like about it. Love me some sad songs. Let me just say sad some more...sad sad sad sad sad. Okay. I was obsessively replaying it on YouTube and getting a good angst on, but then ABBA came on and pulled me out of that funk. So, yeah, good times. Great song.

Interestingly, this chick Birdy has made her cover of the song pretty popular...at least that's what YouTube and Wikipedia tell me. I'm not entirely sure how because mostly I just want to laugh while watching it. Perhaps that's cruel, I mean she's 12 or something, but she has goddamned braces on and sings all braceface lispy-like while maintaining a straight face. That shit is just funny.
